You had me with you until the very end. Jesus ultimately really was never a victim. He is a victim only if we see him as one hundred percent human. But if we believe him to also be divine, He chose to lower himself as the incarnate. He chose to walk that path. And he chose to ignore the temptations in the desert. He chose to to die for us knowing His assignment out of love.
The question of course is, when did Jesus become Divine? And yes, Jesus is a victim of the brutal normalcy of civilization, he is the eternal victim of empire. God did not kill Jesus, humankind did.
